How To Teach Children African Proverbs

We should not allow this compulsive Covid-19 vacation end just like that. Beyond ensuring your children do their school works, you may need to help your children understand a few African Proverbs as well.馃檮... I bet not many parents are familiar with African Proverbs especially the 21st Century Parents. Never mind, it is not too late to  start with the few popular African adage or Proverbs that you are familiar. All you need to do is to start by infusing them in your daily conversation with your children.

While speaking with a friend on this subject, her response was, "Now this brings me to why I pity my kids sometimes. How are they going to know all these yoruba adage馃し‍♀."

Here is an instance where a parent used a proverb in a daily conversation :

Mum: Daveen!, pls come get this button from under the chair for me, u know, 贸w贸 贸m贸de o to p猫p猫, tagba o w贸 keregbe, baby馃槝

Daveen:huh?!馃槙馃槙馃槙mum what does that mean?馃し‍♀

Mum : 馃弮‍♀馃弮‍♀馃弮‍♀馃弮‍♀

It means there are some things that easy for children yet difficult for adult, in the same vein there are some things are easy for adult and difficult for children.

Well, here are a few Yoruba Proverbs or adages that can equally be infused into conversations with children from Yoruba descent:

1. Oju lalakan fi n sori                                          2. A sure tete oni koja Ile
3.  Oba mewa igba mewa
4. Opekete ndagba inu adamo nbaje
5.  Owe lesin oro
6.   Owo ni keke iyinrere
 7.  Ojukan Lada ni
8.  Ayan fejo Adiye nikoje
9. Adura ni Ida Onigbagbo
10. Owo omode o to pepe ti agbalagba o wo keregbe.

You will agree with me that it has been an interesting time on the blog today. I encourage parents from other tribes other than Yoruba to do same with their children. Let's make this #Stayhome fun for the family.

Thank you all for your time on Olabusola's Review. I also like to specially thank Modupe David for inspiring this post.
