5 PEOPLE WE DO NOT LISTEN TO

The act of listening entails some elements such as focus and it basically requires making a conscious effort to mentally, emotionally and physically align with the subject and object of discussion. This involves being sensitive to the verbal and non-verbal messages and choice of words. Listening   is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages to ensure an  accurate  communication process. Without the ability to   listen   effectively, messages are easily misunderstood. 5 PEOPLE WE DO NOT LISTEN TO 1) Our Heart or Inner Mind 2) Our Spouse 3) Our Children 4) Our Elders 5) God

HOW TO BUILD A PARENT- TEACHER RELATIONSHIP

Image
HOW TO BUILD A PARENT- TEACHER RELATIONSHIP “Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” — Henry James D o you know that the best time to say, thank you, to your child's teacher is after the long vacation? Yes, 'summer vacation' as it is fondly called. Parents will appreciate the efforts of teachers each vacation period. You may agree with me that some mothers would have almost had relapse during this period, due to the need to accommodate the restless nature of the preschoolers. C hildren are pleasant to have and beautiful to behold but if not properly engaged, the experience might be unpleasant. All a child want, is to be engaged, it is now left for the child minders, parents or teachers to monitor and guide the child's activities. *(1) One Basic Rule Of Parent- Teacher Relationship Is  APPRECIATION I t baffles me when some parents question the relevance

TWO PRETTY THIEVIES

H istory will always repeat itself, but in more dynamic ways than one. Just as the moon embraced the clouds and as the frogs were setting the pace and rhythm of the nights, I walked slowly down the road. It was not a narrow street but its broad nature had not encountered either the local or state Government’s intervention, hence the different stones that littered these sand filled road would not allow for any other movement but a cat walk. It was barely my usual gait, courtesy my long hours of sitting in the car due to the traffic which I had just escaped. N ow it was quarter past 10 at night and only business night crawlers would beat the dark with sexy and glittering looks that set the night mood for dangerous romance. Yet it was not their route, my street has not being celebrated in recent times for such, so I wondered whose voices penetrated the night at such a time. As I moved closer to the images, I became more interested and curious rather than being scared, my sl

BLOOD EVERYWHERE IN THE POOR MAN'S HOUSE. Iya Kayode the bean cake(akara) seller screamed and dropped the phone. Kayode her only son had just been killed. The boy she gave all her sweat for just died few weeks after getting a bank job in Enugu with promises to repay his mom gone with the winds.A death caused by a needless war. Mama Nonso couldn't even console her neighbor iya Kayode. Two days earlier, Nonso her second child was beheaded in the North. Trying to escape the madness of a war which had just began, Nonso and a few others bundled themselves into a bus and tried to escape from the North. After 5 hours taking several dangerous routes in the middle of the night and about 30 minutes to safety, they were spotted by a group of angry Northern youths who vandalized their vehicle, took all in the bus and beheaded. They didn't even spare the 2 year old daughter of Margaret. The leader of the gang killed both mother and child with the same sword. The leader of tha

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MENINGITIS*

Image
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MENINGITIS* Health is wealth is a cliche that is sometimes overlooked. It will shock  you that death strikes our teens and youths for reasons that can be avoided, yet many families are oblivious of these reasons. There are a few diseases that kills faster than HIV/AIDS, and Meningitis is one of them. Medical scholars have it that, it is more deadly when weighed with the most deadly diseases, yet many Nigerians are not cognizant of the causes and symptoms of Meningitis. It is quite appalling, how we handle critical issues in this part of the world, we hide under the cover of prayers rather than seek medical attention. We spiritualize everything without taking precautions, of course the repercussion is high mortality rates. No doubt, prayer is helpful but the roles of good information as well as medical support cannot be shortchanged. The purpose of this article is to sensitise people and raise th

HOW TO TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ

Image
HOW TO TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ It is quite amazing that at age 17 in 1964, John Maxwell took a great interest in reading books on Leadership . So it was not out of place, 5 years later in 1969, when he had his first leadership position.  According to John Maxwell "In 1976, I became convinced that everything rises and falls on leadership". One other peculiar thing was that this young man also aimed at writing a book on “ Leadership-Gold ” once he clocked 60 and as God will have it. He achieved this mile stone goal, at 60 and many others. My point is that leadership is everything and no parent can nurture a child properly without understanding a few tips about the heart of leadership. The beauty of understanding the concept of leadership as parents is that, it empowers your child with leadership traits at their early age. However, the focus of this article is to build a reading culture in your child. You may not be
