WORLD POETRY DAY MARCH 21

Image
HAPPY WORLD POETRY DAY Today March 21st marks the world day for Poetry. It is a day set aside to celebrate creative mind and the spirit of spoken words.  In celebrating World Poetry Day, March 21,  UNESCO  recognizes the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind. A  decision to proclaim 21 March as World Poetry Day  was adopted during UNESCO’s 30th session held in Paris in 1999. One of the main objectives of the Day is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to offer endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their communities. The observance of World Poetry Day is also meant to encourage a return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, to promote the teaching of poetry, to restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and to support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media, so that the art of po...
THE DAY I CHEATED ON MY BELOVED WIFE After a glorious Sunday service and after attending other group meetings, we were both visibly tired. Church service ended before 12 noon, but we got home around 2:30pm. On getting home, both of us wanted to retire to the bedroom and get some rest. It was then I remembered that I announced in church that NO MARRIED WOMAN MUST ENTER THE KITCHEN that afternoon. The first lady of every home, deserves to be pampered and shown tender loving care (TLC). For a Brief moment , I thought within myself...."how on earth did I make that announcement in church today??" (As pastor, its easier to give commands) But the die is already cast, I must fulfill my obligation. (we must obey instructions from the pulpit) I watched my wife enter the bedroom, while I sluggishly made my way to the kitchen. It felt like a very long lonely road. While walking to the kitchen, I knew exactly how she felt every time she had to be in that kitchen alone by hersel...

SALLY & TOM 3 A t night Tom could not sleep, after looking through his Mum’s Pictures and smiling with tears and tears rolling down his face, he got up and wrote an outstanding Proposal, a sponsorship letter and beautiful power point slides. He sent it via mail in his hotel room that midnight to Sally who seems to be also awake.  She reviewed and gave a few pointers and corrections. Then soon agreed on a meeting. They met later that day and discussed at length about it. They decided to speak with the WHO Organisation team in Spain and they gave their promise after viewing the proposal to attend the awareness programme and also to support them with Cancer awareness booklets and a few more materials.  I t was indeed a great time. Soon Sally realized how often she calls Martins and how he rarely worries about her, yet Tom never knew how to stop calling, texting and sending her emails daily. On this particular night, Sally called Martins and told her how she mi...

SALLY & TOM 2

SALLY & TOM 2 S he was on her way out when Tom reluctantly told them to continue with the treatment. He later called his office to report his present state and the MD told him to take care of himself. S ome of Tom’s colleagues dropped by after work and told him how they had all missed him on their new project. Tom had always been a team lead but now the sick bed had only reminded him of how indispensable, he was. His colleagues made fun of him so well and even compared him to an “Iroko tree that fell in a certain village, despite how strong it was’’. One of them, Mark even cracked a joke on him, that he was sure Tom refused being discharged because of the tender attention the beautiful Nurses were giving him. They were stunned when Tom told them how he vehemently refused admission and was told to sign a suicidal or voluntary discharge form. They also turned it into a joke and Tola is closest friend reacted that, Tom’s action was very wrong and that he would personally ...

TOM & SALLY 1 B reaking a leg at every pitch was Tom’s utmost desire.Tom Coker is an I.T professional and he works with a famous IT company around the Ikoyi axis, of Lagos State. He had just finished a presentation for the Managing Director of Billhem Limited, Mr Bill Tray, a German Client and his group of directors, who came from Frankfurt, Germany to launch an arm of their business in Lagos. It was an unusual pitch. Also present in the boardroom were two other companies’ I.T executives who were seated with their team members. Tom’s team were slotted for the last presentation and just as Tom concluded, the boardroom suddenly became so quiet. Tom had never got it wrong before but this time, he was not sure of what more to say to convince Mr Bill Tray’s team. He had thought of repeating a particular phrase alongside his best slide to further convince everyone but Mr Bill Tray motioned to him to him to stop, as if he knew Tom wanted to say more. Tom then took his seat be...
