SALLY & TOM 2

SALLY & TOM 2

She was on her way out when Tom reluctantly told them to continue with the treatment. He later called his office to report his present state and the MD told him to take care of himself.

Some of Tom’s colleagues dropped by after work and told him how they had all missed him on their new project. Tom had always been a team lead but now the sick bed had only reminded him of how indispensable, he was. His colleagues made fun of him so well and even compared him to an “Iroko tree that fell in a certain village, despite how strong it was’’. One of them, Mark even cracked a joke on him, that he was sure Tom refused being discharged because of the tender attention the beautiful Nurses were giving him. They were stunned when Tom told them how he vehemently refused admission and was told to sign a suicidal or voluntary discharge form. They also turned it into a joke and Tola is closest friend reacted that, Tom’s action was very wrong and that he would personally go and apologize to the Female Doctor and encourage her to discharge Tom with those two Nurses so that they can adequately nurse him to health. It was indeed a great time and Tom’s friends had made him more relaxed to spend two more nights in the Hospital. Tola came back to check him in the company of his wife and Mark but he was unable to see DR. Sally throughout his visit. Soon Tom was discharged, he had sent his driver to get little tokens for all the Nurses and so when he was leaving, they did not laugh at him like they first did. Instead, they sang his praise and only mocked him a little.

Sally was scheduled to travel to Spain for a medical training and conference two months after and fate brought her path across her troublesome patients Tom. Tom was on the same flight as he was going for his vacation. They both sat together on the flight. Tom was the first to say, “thank you Doc for saving my life” and they both laughed at it. They spoke a little and exchanged contact before Sally slept off. While in Spain, Sally was very busy but Tom kept calling to keep up with her. Meanwhile, Sally was in a relationship with Martins, the son of the Chief Justice of Lagos. The relationship was soon to materialize in marriage when she went to Spain. Tom every effort to see Sally had proved abortive until he located the Conference, she was to attend and pleaded to speak with her on some sudden health issues of his Mum. Now Tom’s Parents were late but he knew Sally was not ready to engage in an unprofessional relationship with an ex-patient. So on this note, Sally excused herself at the end of the days’ activity to have an afternoon Tea with him. Tom talked about his Mum for a while and how the Nigerian Doctor’s did not diagnose on time that she had cancer, yet the symptoms were not obvious until she was closed to her death two years back.

Now Sally was shocked that the Mum was already dead, yet was moved by the story and encouraged Tom that she lost an aunt to the dreaded Cancer diseases and was working on starting an advocacy group to encourage victims as well as enlighten young men and women with Cancer awareness programme.  Tom’s face was lightened as he volunteered to be part of it. Sally was glad he had someone who was passionate about this course. Tom promised to write a proposal, do a power point presentation and send to Sally. Sally, on the other hand, was glad that her time was not wasted on a frivolous conversation. They had a good evening and both left.
