*THE ASSIGNMENT OF MARRIAGE 2*

*Text: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh.” Gen 2:24*

Let’s begin today by saying that it’s better to be single than to be wrongly married. Marriage can be heaven or hell on earth depending on what we do with it. We have a choice to make as regard the kind of marriage we want to have.

For those who are still single the assignment of marriage begins from making the right choice. If you miss it here it will be difficult to correct afterwards. The foundation of a house determines to a great extent the strength and the durability of the house. Every wise builder pays very close attention to the foundation depending on the height of the structure to be built on it. The choice of a spouse is not the same as the choice of a roommate in school. There are certain relationships we did not really decide on our own. They were conferred on us. None of us had a choice on whom your siblings or classmates would be. But not the same for marriage.

In making a choice of a spouse we must clarify and purify our motive. What exactly do you want? A bed mate or a life mate, a sex partner or a life partner. The purpose of marriage is not just to give you a sex partner. If you cannot control your sexual urge before marriage you will not be able to do so after marriage. In fact the proof that someone will be faithful after marriage is if they hold themselves before marriage. Not every nice guy is a husband material and not every fine girl is a wife material. It takes more than a broad chest or a nice figure to be a spouse.
The process of making the right choice of a life partner must be submitted to God. I know cultures where a young man or lady is required to marry from a particular village or family. It’s quite unfortunate because we seem to magnify cultures and traditions beyond the understanding of God. Give God a chance!

*PRAYER:*
Lord I submit every area of my life to you to be guided.
