Alex still had his white shirt on, with his neat pair of brown chinos, as he laid on his bed thinking of why things sometimes happen the way they do or what kind of game, fate was playing with . He had a lot on his feeble mind; a lot more than he could excuse to continue his proposal or discuss with Charles, since he wasn’t sure of the next step to take in resolving this puzzle. He soon remembered the first time he met Zoe. She was this naive girl in his Batch (National Youth Service Corp - Orientation Camp set) while he was serving in Cross River State. In those days, she was so innocent and intelligent in her look. He had enjoyed staring at her from a distance each time Corp members were on the parade ground during their three weeks orientation camp at Obubura, a local government in Cross River State. On few occasions during his visit to the Mammy Market, Alex had seen Zoe in company of her friends, her lovely shape and height could not be hidden especially from the eyes that have been staring at her more than once. At the camp fire night, he remembered she stepped on a nail which made her stay few days at the Orientation camp clinic. Most lazy Corp members would ordinarily pretend to be suddenly ill in other to stay away from the parade ground's stress but Zoe never like that. Instead she was fond of marching and participating in every activity on camp. He had always known her name was Zoe but he never got a chance to express the likeness he had for her, for the thought that she might be in a relationship.

It was now few minutes past one in the morning and sleep was not forth coming so Alex brought out his Laptop to continue his unfinished official task. He had started a proposal the night before, so he proceeded with the budget estimate but had barely completed prove reading the proposal when his mind traveled to his last vacation in Berlin, Germany. The conference he went for in Berlin had ended so he went on a research to Hamburg, where he had a great time at one of their musical shows. His visit to Hamburg became more interesting when he stumbled into this adorable lady; Zoe Coker, Yes the same Zoe Coker from his NYSC days. She was still looking as radiant and warm as ever. What on earth was she doing in Germany and to think from Obubura in Cross River state, he could still run into her in Hamburg, Germany. On that particular day, Alex stood there admiring her as usual but this time around, he had to take a deep breath so he could at last summon up courage to say hi when suddenly, a straying child who was on a goose chase, ran into Zoe and fell her hand bag. She bent over to pack the things that fell out, Alex stood at a distance watching her, and as he prepared his mind to go talk to her, he saw her pick up a little sex toy and drop it off in her bag. The sight of this just gave Alex a sudden cold water shower from his readiness to throw off his many years lack of courage to finally speak with Zoe Coker. Alex could not help but wonder what she was doing with a sex toy. Zoe on the other hand composed herself and walked out of the complex. Two days later, Alex took a walk to that complex with the hope of running into Zoe but there was no sight of her.

That night was a very long and boring night for Alex while it was a short and pleasant night for a few other guests as they were busy tumbling romantically and moaning in different suites, as they expressed their sexual pleasure. Alex's eyes was glued to his wrist watch now yet he couldn’t see anything until he got up to have a second look, alas it was exactly thirty-five minutes past 3 am in the morning. He managed to catch some sleep once more but as much as he tried to sleep, it became more difficult. His sleep was not easy as he struggled to keep the memory of Zoe Coker off his mind. Memories of the event of that night flashed through his mind and he remembered how she gently sipped the wine at the engagement party and how her lips parted each time she said a word to her friends and how she giggled on few occasion. She seem happy and fulfilled. She was still very beautiful but looking different of course, it is about 7 years after NYSC and he is not even sure if she is single, married or divorced. 

He is not sure if she ever saw him while on the orientation camp. He thought of Zoe over and over and he remembered he never saw any engagement ring on her index finger. He then felt, what if she is married then all his hope and dreams about her would be in vain. He then concluded that if she is single then he might need to just ask her out today before she sleeps off his finger as usual. The 4:30 am alarm soon wakes Alex up from his thoughts then he sits up to undress and takes a cold refreshing shower to have a brief sleep. He stood in the bath for few minutes as he concludes in right there in the bathroom that he is in love with Zoe and would ensure he made friends with her this weekend, just to go on a date and possibly build a relationship of some sought. With these thoughts he smiles as he returns to bed and slept off in his birthday suit,which was unlike Alex.
