ALEX AND BELLA3

 ALEX AND BELLA3

Once more it became an herculean task to wake up Alex as it took several calls from Charles to get Alex off a seemingly sound sleep at about 8:20 the following morning.  Quite unlike Alex he was never known for lateness, as a matter of fact; he was such a principled man that would literally set a timer to manage his time when he has to hold an informal conversation. His attention to integrity and etiquette is impeccable and this compliments his adherence to punctuality to all events. Unfortunately for him, all the groom’s men were already down stairs in the compound of the Groom’s hotel posing for the first shot and Alex was nowhere to be found. The Church wedding was 10:00am and the photography session was slated for eight in the morning 8:00am, while arrival at the church was 9:45am. Alex had to take hurriedly dress up, racing down the stairs unto the parking lot where he saw the rest from afar.

Being a choleric, Charles did not hesitate to lash out on Alex for distorting their picture formation with his delay.  Charles was more like the mini event manager and he would not take any excuse that would make the church ministers frown at them, given the prior warning that if the groom and his men gets to church late, they would meet the church half way through the service. Now they had to retake a few pictures after which they all got into their different cars and waited behind the groom’s car, in other to go in a convoy. Alex had on his lips; more than just an apology for being late, he really needed to brace up to tell Zoe how he felt about her. She was no longer leaving his sight. She needed to know for how many years the thought had lingered in his thoughts, on his mind and on his lips yet he had always excused it for the love of his career and all, but now he was no longer yielding to the fear of speaking out. Alex was still standing by the pillar of the hotel when one of the groom’s men hooted his car horn to get him off his thought. This time around, Charles walked up to Alex and his reaction was, “guy what is wrong with you? I understand this is not the best time to discuss but please get your hearts together and let’s get the church service behind us after which we can dig through your thoughts”. Alex only responded with, I’m so sorry for the stress. I had a sleepless night but I‘m fine.”

At the reception Alex looked out for Zoe and Bella but noticed it was only Bella and Wonuola that sat together. The party soon ended and still Zoe was out of sight. He could not hold back the questions on his mind . He summoned up courage and went to over to Bella to chat her up. Bella was quite a warm young lady; she was vast on several subjects of discourse. As Alex chatted her up, he soon asked about her friend, Zoe. To his dismay, Bella responded that Zoe had to catch the next flight upon hearing her second son, who is a sickle cell anemia patient, was in comma in the hospital.  Too many things to comprehend for Alex, first was that Zoe left abruptly without a goodbye, secondly  her child was in comma, so he wondered how many children she had and many other things he was  oblivious of. He politely requested for her number so he could ask after the child. He was still seated with Bella when Charles joined them and queried Alex about his drama earlier in the day, he drags Alex to the nearest Bar. Alex pushed Charles away with an excuse that he worked into the night and over slept. Charles wasn’t ready to take such flimsy excuse.
Charles: Guy did you impregnate a married woman or what could make you lost in thoughts  for several minutes this morning.
Alex: Charles common man, you know I would rather die than do such.
Charles: In that case take this bottle, (gives him a beer) and drink on as you tell me what girl is stock in your brain, let me help you to use tooth pick to finger her out.
Alex: Baba I beg, nothing of that nature. It is only work related stress.
Charles: Oh okay, in that case why were you requesting for Zoe’s number? Abi you think say I no no say your eyes don dey size the babe up since last night… Omg! Abi nah the girl matter give you hangover… yeeh Jesu gbami la. You…
Alex: Charles common stop this joke. It is not funny.
Charles: Alright let us get down to business. I can you take down to where Zoe is lodged and you guys can pick up a conversation from there.
Alex: I thought she had to go check up her son or who do I believe, you or Bella?
