SHE WAS NOT THE PICTURE I PICTURED
Bernice had all
the qualities that beauty could offer and much more. At the time, she was the
envy of her friends and family, as she got the most attention, even without seeking
for it. Little wonder, Famous Telema Davies called her “Sugar”. When he first met
her, indeed her charisma and personality was adorable enough to depict the
sweet taste of sugar. Hence the comparison was without exaggeration.
Bernice also had
a great complexion that glowed in the sun and radiated with other climate
conditions. Her words were soothing to the marrows and her gait like royalty.
Her intellectual excellence embellished her stature and looks; hence some of
her peers wondered what her beauty had got to do with an unbeatable brain.
Telema soon found
her irresistible and like others became her best of friends. He saw all he
wanted in a good wife right in the eye of Bernice; as she was every man’s
dream.
Now Telema was
not naive in the art of dating; however, he would not dent his credibility by
dating a lady of lesser virtue, like his peers would normally do.
On one of his early morning walks, Telema ran into Bernice again and decided to have a jog with her. During their brief conversation, Bernice made a statement that resonated in his mind. This led him to inviting her to dinner at his home, where he ended up proposing to her; which eventually led to a meet the parent’s dinner with the Davies family.Bernice’s beauty gave her a warm welcome in the home of the Davies’, and as they sat to dine, her intellect complimented her beauty and it melted the hearts of Telema’s parents, that they bought into the relationship of both children.
Dating Bernice
was fun; and after two years there was no reason for them not to be joined
together as one. No sooner were they pronounced husband and wife at one of the Prestigious
Cathedrals in Vernice, which left the few people in attendance a lasting memory
of a glamorous wedding.
Upon their
return from an exquisite honeymoon experience, it was obvious to them both that
they could not have wished for a better partner.
Just like in the
usual end notes of M&B, Telema and Bernice Davies were united to live
happily ever after; however, it wasn’t until a certain evening when things appeared
not to be how they seemed to be. It happened that, Bernice returned from work
and stumbled on a manuscript Telema had just written, titled “She was not the Picture
I Pictured”.
Bernice took her
time to read the manuscript and she soon discovered, the book was about her. On
that faithful night, she saw herself in the mirror of her husband’s book and
came to the realisation that she needed to change as a person. It took her a
month to think, pray and search within herself.
She soon found
solace in God’s word and took a 180- degree turnaround to become a better
person.
At the end of
the one month journey of rediscovery, Telema saw the difference in Bernice and wondered. She not only surprised him with way of living but ended up writing the last part of the manuscript and told him to go ahead with publishing of the book. They both decided to improve on their level of communication
by discussing all manners of expectation from each other; involve God in their
relationship and also to help each other become better people.
